We’re loving all of the national days on the calendar, but we have to say, we’re a little biased with loving the event that takes place today, April 12th! It’s National Grilled Cheese Day! It’s definitely a thing, and we’re taking this opportunity to share a yummy recipe! It’s an elevated twist on a classic, with an edge on all of the other comfort foods around. We’re talking about a Grilled Cheese Sandwich, with a kick!
Choice of bread, from jalapeno to sourdough
Choice of your favorite melting cheese(s); we suggest Mexican blend, pre-shredded, or vegan shredded cheese
4 tbsp. room-temperature butter or spread, divided, or vegan alternative
1 tsp. minced garlic
Make it gourmet with these optional ingredients:
1 whole avocado
Bacon or ham
1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 3 tbsp. of butter and garlic. Heat in microwave for about 5 seconds (times may vary, according to strength of microwave)
2. Take the garlic and butter mix and spread it over each side of bread slices with a pastry brush.
3. Melt 1 tbsp. butter in skillet over medium heat. Place bread into skillet, adding cheese (and optional ingredients) to side that is face up. Sprinkle more cheese over optional ingredients, should you choose to use them.
4. Once cheese begins to melt, close sandwich with other slice of bread, and flip until each side is golden brown, and cheese is fully melted.
