Balancing Act

Balancing Act

Sometimes, it really just feels like there aren't enough hours in a day!

We chatted with Eva, a Marine wife and a member of our Ellie community, and got a little insider info on how she does it all: having a career, raising her daughters, staying fit, and cooking up a storm.

Eva is wearing December 2021 outfit, Glow Up.

What does your typical day look like as a Marine’s wife?

Every day is different, but I strive to stay on routine and make sure the girls stay on it as well! I am a working spouse so the days are busy.

At 5am, I get myself up (ready & dressed) and then get both of my daughters ready for daycare. I drop them off around 6:30am and head straight to work. After a full day, I head back to pick them up and drive home. During a cycle at SOI (he’s in the Marine Corps), my husband, Matthew, is almost always away. So when we get home, I unpack the girls' backpacks, bathe and change them, make dinner, do laundry (laundry is a daily thing for me, I don’t like being overwhelmed with clothes!), spend some time together (puzzles, books, coloring, etc.), then put them both to bed around 7-7:30pm. After they are both asleep, I shower, fold the clothes, and prepare their clothes and backpacks for the next day! This routine goes on Monday through Friday.

Some days aren’t always this easy. Throw in a tantrum here, and some crying there...just trying to be real with y’all!

How do you incorporate balance in your day to day life?

First thing is first, every morning I accept that I cannot do everything all the time. Once I accept that, I know my day is going to be okay. Since my weekdays are almost always the same, I strive to stay on routine and that keeps me balanced! I’ve also prioritized my time to things that are the most important each day and spread out the other tasks throughout the week so I don’t overwhelm myself!

How does staying active play in your day to day life?

I’m thankful to have two girls that make me run around with them every single day! But really, I’m thankful to have a stationary bike right in my home. Since I’m usually home alone, it’s difficult getting to an actual gym, so I love working out in the comfort of my own home!

What do you believe is the most important part of creating a balanced diet?

EDUCATE YOURSELF. Research, follow licensed individuals who deliver the proper knowledge, and do what works best for YOU. Everyone is different and it is truly important to know your body and the food you put inside of it. Eat foods that nourish your body and make you happy. I’m all for BALANCE. So, ENJOY your food!

What inspired you to start your Instagram page?

I’ve always loved cooking and baking. I never look at it as a chore, but something I truly enjoy. I decided to create Balance With Eva to share all my eats and treats! I love sharing brands that I support as well!

What is your go-to holiday recipe?

That’s a hard one. I have so many favorites! During the holidays, I love making candied pecans, cinnamon rolls, white chocolate truffles, and so many more!
